Ms. Perez has survived two abusive relationships while raising three children. She is currently attending City College of San Francisco studying child development. Her goal is to open a day care facility to help other women who are trying to make their way to a better life. City College Dean Jorge Bell wrote in support of Victoria, "She is an amazing example to me of the power of hope and perseverance." Carlota del Portillo stated in her letter of support, "Helping [Victoria] is investing in a woman with a bright future."

Established in 1972 as the Training Awards Program (TAP), the Women's Opportunity Award (WOA) is the signature project of Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA). It provides grants to women who are the primary source of income for themselves and their dependents to upgrade their business skills through obtaining undergraduate degrees or professional certificates.

In 2003, The Womens Opportunity Awards program received the Award of Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives' Associations Advance America program.

"MISS-REPRESENTATION"

www.missrepresentation.org

Soroptimist International of San Francisco gives a $1000 grant to a beneficiary chosen by the winner of the  Soroptimist Ruby Award.

The Soroptimist Ruby Award was established by Soroptimist International of the Americas in 2010 to rename and replace the "Advancing the Status of Women", "Women Helping Women", "Women of Distinction Award", and the "Making a Difference for Women Award".

"The Soroptimist Ruby Award", in honor of our first Federation President Ruby Minar, recognizes women who have significantly aided women and/or girls, through professional or volunteer efforts.

Writer/Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom brings together some of America's most influential women in politics, news, and entertainment to give us an inside look at the media's message. Miss Representation explores women's under-representation in positions of power and influence and challenges the limited and often disparaging portrayal of women in the media..
