Soroptimist International of San Francisco is the second oldest club in the world, chartered March 6, 1922.
Soroptimist International of San Francisco (called SISF for short) participates in programs to improve the lives of women and girls on the local level, depending on the specific needs of our community.
We provide support and service in the following projects: the Live Your Dream Education and Training Award (formerly Women’s Opportunity Award), Georgia McHugh Scholarship, Dream It Be It: Career Support for Girls, “Shelter from the Storm”: Domestic Violence Awareness – Youth Art, and Bus Shelters, Campaign to Stop Sexual Trafficking of Women and Girls, Mary Wheeler Barnard Memorial Scholarship, Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family, Grace Cathedral’s Bayview Mission, Jared Box Project, SafeHouse Internship, Gracenter, Tech Trek Girls Camp, and Homeless Prenatal Program.
Qualifications
There is one type of member as defined in the Federation Bylaws: regular members.
In addition, those members who achieved Life status on or before July 1, 2001, shall be recognized as long as membership is maintained in the Soroptimist organization.
Club Life: Exclusive to S.I. of San Francisco: a Regular member in good standing of Soroptimist for a minimum of 20 years is designated as a Club Life member. (Same dues as a Regular member).
Note: In the United States and Brazil, public accommodation laws permit men to be invited to membership. This option is not available to clubs outside of Brazil or the United States since Soroptimist International is a service organization for women in management and the professions.
Participation Requirements
A. Members are expected to
- Attend scheduled business meetings of the club.
- Serve on at least one club committee and participate in club activities and service
projects. Sell at least two tickets for a fundraiser.
- Attend Sierra Pacific Region conferences, district meetings, leadership academies, and - Soroptimist International of the Americas conventions to the extent possible.
- Promptly pay club dues
- Pay monthly dinner fee or quarterly operational assessment whether attending the
club business meeting or not.
- Pay any other fees or assessments required by the club.
- Adhere to the procedures outlined here and in the club bylaws.
B. We acknowledge that each member of Soroptimist International of San Francisco has other commitments and obligations they wish to fulfill, and that there may be times when these commitments and obligations must take precedence over SISF activities.
Each individual member is best able to determine the level and type of participation that they can manage.
Soroptimist International of San Francisco wants its members to attend club meetings because they WANT to be there.
